Carabas: The Renaissance of Barbera
Carabas represents an adventurous journey through the evolution of Barbera, transforming it from a forgotten wine to an unforgettable sensory experience on cold winter evenings. In a cozy house, surrounded by fog, Carabas becomes the ideal companion, offering an opportunity for reflection, a moment of clarity in the dark. Clear, authentic, yet surprising: this is Carabas, a safety beacon in the night.
No other variety of grape has experienced such a radical metamorphosis as Barbera in the last thirty years. Once considered ordinary and neglected, this Piedmontese grape revealed a hidden character that was just waiting to be rediscovered. Luretta has reinvented Barbera, presenting a deeper wine, rich in tannins and structure compared to its Piedmontese counterpart. Carabas is an honest wine, direct but also sophisticated, imbued with authentic character.
The Revolution of the Barbera
Giacomo Bologna di Braida was the first to give Barbera the recognition it deserves. His Bricco dell'Uccellone was the forerunner of Barbera on an international scale, transforming a wine once considered rustic into a worldwide success. Originally light and transparent, the traditional Piedmontese Barbera has been reinterpreted by Luretta, fermenting the grapes grown on the clay soils of the Colli Piacentini to give it depth and structure.
The first vintage of Carabas dates back to 2003, earning in 2004 the first prize at the International Barbera Competition in Monferrato. A significant recognition for a wine produced outside its region of origin but which pays tribute to tradition. Its unique character and balance between complexity and freshness have distinguished the most successful vintages such as 2011 and 2015. The last vintage available is 2018, maintaining the tradition and essence of the lands of Piacenza.
